K. Ramanujam, the director general of Tamil Nadu police, has summoned Q Brand Superintendent of Police G. Sampathkumar for an inquiry after an accused in the IPL satta scandal claimed that Sampathkumar had received bribes worth Rs. 15 lakh from bookies under the assurance that he would get them out of trouble.
Sampathkumar has been investigating the IPL satta scandal for around 2 weeks, but was not making any progress. However, his Q Branch turned up a bookie in Chennai while investigating a fake passport racket.
On May 16, the investigation was finally handed over to the CB-CID. Ever since, the Delhi police have arrested three cricket players belonging to the Rajasthan Royals team and the Tamil Nadu police have been urged to make quick progress.
Reliable sources have revealed that Mahendra Randak, who had been arrested for cheating a number of bettors and bookies, claimed that Sampathkumar is involved in the case. Allegedly, Randak cheated bookies Pappu, Gowtham Mohan, and Ugam Chand of a total of Rs. 5 lakh and Uttam C. Jain alias Kitty of Rs. 1.2 crore after making false promises of getting their names off the police records. An irate Gowthan had complained to the CB-CID, which had immediately arrested Randak.
